The Economic Progress Institute Releases Review of the Legislative Session and Enacted Budget
Progress made towards a nequitable future for all Rhode Islanders

PROVIDENCE, RI – Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies, Executive Director of the Economic Progress
Institute (EPI), released EPI’s review of the legislative session and enacted budget. The report
is a review of legislative and budget progress towards equity in Rhode Island. Topics reviewed
include budget and revenue fairness, economic equity and justice, and health care.
“Rhode Island made progress towards a more equitable future this legislative session by making
the protections of the Affordable Care Act and the EACA as part of Rhode Island law, protecting
early education seats for kids, and enacting a modest increase in the Earned Income Tax
Credit,” said Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies, Executive Director of the Economic Progress Institute.
“I applaud the Governor, Speaker, and Senate President for their achievements this session and
look forward to working with them next session to finally end predatory lending, expanding paid
family leave, and ensuring that we have a budget that brings Rhode Island closer to becoming a
more equitable and just state.”
