An Open Letter from the Revenue for Rhode Islanders Coalition to the Members of the Rhode Island General Assembly

Last updated: February 26, 2025

The 32 organizations constituting the Revenue for Rhode Islanders Coalition urge the Members of the Rhode Island General Assembly to act NOW to generate sustainable revenue by moderately taxing the highest-income Rhode Islanders through legislation introduced by Rep. Karen Alzate and Sen. Melissa Murray — HB 5473/SB 329 — that is reasonable, democratic, fiscally responsible, and moral. Enactment would prioritize the well-being of more than one million Rhode Islanders over the continued benefit of several thousand tax filers. This bill could fund much-needed investments in childcare, public education, public transportation, seniors, healthcare, and roads and bridges that would benefit all Rhode Islanders.
