EPI Calls for Special Fall Session of the General Assembly to Protect RI from the Harms of the Federal Budget Reconciliation Law

Last updated: September 17, 2025

Economic Progress Institute Executive Director Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies urged the Rhode Island General Assembly to reconvene for a special legislative session this fall. The federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act "has already set in motion devastating cuts that will harm hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders, while extending tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans," Nelson-Davies stated in a letter to legislative leaders. "Without swift state action, these cuts will destabilize our budget, deepen inequities, and leave many residents without essential supports."
