Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) data by RI county, State House districts & State Senate districts

Last updated: November 05, 2025

Over 90,000 Rhode Island households and approximately 144,000 Rhode Islanders from every corner of the state depend on SNAP food assistance benefits. Here, the Economic Progress Institute (EPI) presents SNAP and United States Department of Agriculture data for SNAP participation by county and by state legislative district. FY 2024 average monthly household participation from USDA was allocated to counties using SNAP participation estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey 5-year estimates taken from table DP03. Rounded to the nearest 100. These data sources were analyzed by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) to produce the numbers we shared.

EPI’s national partner, CBPP is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that advances federal and state policies to help build a nation where everyone — regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ZIP code, immigration status, or disability status — has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity. EPI shares the data with Rhode Island policymakers and the general public to help everyone understand that the crisis over halted and reduced SNAP benefits is a serious problem for Rhode Islanders across the state.
