Navigant Credit Union's Smart Start Loan & New Beginnings Checking Account

Navigant Credit Union is the longest-operating, member-owned credit union in Rhode Island. It's also the largest credit union in the state.

One of Navigant's products is the Smart Start Loan.

If unexpected bills have snuck up on you or you're short on cash, you don’t have to wait until payday. Get the money you need now and build credit at the same time.

Smart Start Loans feature:

  • Flexible 90-day repayment terms
  • Competitive rate of 18% APR (effective as 3/1/18)
  • Loan amounts up to $600
  • A low $20 application charge

Who qualifies?

  • Must be a resident of Rhode Island
  • Must be a member of Navigant Credit Union and use direct deposit for a minimum of 4 weeks
  • Navigant does not check credit history for this loan

What ID/documentation do I need to bring to apply?

  • Valid government ID
  • If the ID does not have your address, bring proof of address

Repayment example:

  • $600 borrowed based on 18% APR over 3 month/90 days
  • 1st monthly payment: $206.08
  • 2nd monthly payment: $206.08
  • 3rd monthly payment: $206.07

Another product is geared toward community members who cannot open an account at other financial institutions because they have made a mistake in the past, been blocked by ChexSystems, and are unbanked. It is called the New Beginnings Checking Account.

Through it, Navigant provides the freedom to make purchases without extra fees and a secure place to save your money. New Beginnings Checking accounts come with a debit card, and New Beginnings Savings accounts come with an ATM card. Both require only $10 to open. New Beginnings Checking accounts require a small monthly maintenance fee that can be reduced by enrolling in Direct Deposit.
